JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern: Everything You Need to Know 

NTA released the JEE Main 2025 official exam pattern on jeemain.nta.ac.in. The pattern for 2025 is consistent with 2023 and 2024, with no structural changes to question count or marking scheme.

Understanding the exam pattern before you practise with past papers is essential. It tells you how much time to allocate per subject, which section to attempt first, and how to manage the numerical questions strategically.

How Are the 25 Questions Per Subject Split?

Each subject — Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry — has 25 questions divided into two sections:

• Section A: 20 MCQs (all compulsory)
• Section B: 10 numerical value questions, out of which only 5 are compulsory

This optional structure in Section B is strategic. You can attempt the 5 questions you are most confident about and skip the rest without any penalty.

Students who rush and mark shaky answers lose more to negative marking than they gain. JEE ki taiyari mein Section B strategy is often the difference between 95 percentile and 99 percentile.

Subject-Wise Distribution of Marks in JEE Main 2025 

The total marks in JEE Main 2025 Paper 1 is 300 marks, split equally across three subjects. This has remained consistent with the JEE Main 2024 pattern.

One important point: Paper 1 and Paper 2 follow the same broad marking scheme, but their question structures differ significantly. Do not confuse the two when planning your preparation. Paper 2A (BArch) includes a Drawing Test; Paper 2B (BPlanning) includes Planning-based MCQs.

How to Calculate Your JEE Main 2025 Score Using the Answer Key

Once NTA releases the official answer key on jeemain.nta.ac.in, you can calculate your probable score before the result is announced. Here is the exact method:

1. Download your question paper and the official answer key PDF.
2. Match each of your responses against the answer key.
3. Apply the marking scheme:
4. • Correct answer: Add +4 marks
   • Incorrect answer: Deduct –1 mark
   • Unattempted question: 0 marks (no deduction)
4. Sum your total to get your estimated raw score out of 300.
5. Use NTA's percentile normalisation formula to estimate your percentile (this varies by shift difficulty).
